Restored Sheaffer EXCELLENT 1ST YEAR Burgundy Snorkel Clipper Fine Point
EXCELLENT 1ST YEAR Burgundy Snorkel Clipper. Length capped – 5 1/2. This 1st year Snorkel Clipper is in excellent restored condition. Snorkel pens made in the first year of production (1952) were equipped with a 14k gold Snorkel tube. The company didn’t advertise or otherwise publicize the fact, and it wasn’t until sometime in the 1960s that a pair of collectors sent a tube for assay and the first-year Snorkels became collectibles. Sheaffer’s White Dot Clipper features a stainless steel cap with gold-filled trim and a palladium silver Triumph nib (80% palladium, 20% silver). Palladium silver is a precious metal that Sheaffer began using in 1933 for the masks on premium gold nibs because of its excellent ink-flow properties. Modern fountain pens with palladium silver nibs sell for about the same price as comparable models with 18k gold nibs. I will include a photocopy of an original Sheaffer’s Snorkel instructions leaflet. Replacement of all seals and the sac. Smoothing and adjusting the nib. Refinishing the plastic, stainless steel, and gold-filled surfaces. Filling the pen with ink (not just dipping). And producing multiple writing samples over 2 days (like the ones in the photos). I guarantee the pens I restore write smoothly and fill as designed. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Pens & Writing Instruments\Pens\Fountain Pens\Sheaffer”.
