There are no dings or scratches to the stainless steel cap and no scratches visible on the black plastic. The filling system has been fully restored with new sac, point seal, and O ring, and the blind cap. Has a new and better seal to the plunger tube. The XF-to-F nib writes super smooth and slightly wet (please see the photo of the writing sample). Sheaffer began making the Snorkel-filling Thin Model in 1952, and with no fanfare included a solid 14k gold Snorkel tube for the first year of production. Restored Sheaffer Excellent Green Pen For Men I. (PFM I) Pen & Pencil, Fine Point. Length capped – 5 3/8. Pencil propels and retracts, has extra leads. Case is good with replacement liner. This is an excellent example of Sheaffer’s Pen For Men I with matching pencil in uncommon green. The set has been fully restored from a very good original set and has the original case which is in good condition with a replacement liner (see photos). It has a new sac, new point seal, and new O ring and fills perfectly. The nib has been smoothed and adjusted for medium ink flow (please see the photo of the writing sample). Sheaffer made five Pen For Men models and named them with roman numerals from I through V. The line was first produced in 1959 but offerings were pared back to just the III and V in 1963. Sheaffer terminated PFM production in 1968. Thus the PFM I, II, and IV are less frequently seen and green is one of the less common colors. This example has a very unusual cap: PFM IIs were satin finished and are usually found with visible scratches that cannot be removed without destroying the satin finish. This is one of the best original caps that I’ve seen. The restoration of this pen included the replacement of the sac, seals, and O ring. Black plastic parts have been refinished to eliminate visible scratches. The nib has been tuned for smoothness and medium ink flow. Restored Sheaffer Excellent Black Pen For Men (PFM) IV, Fine Point. Length capped – 5 3/8. In 1959 Sheaffer introduced five models of a new fountain pen they christened the Pen For Men. It was a successor to the famous Snorkel with the same filling system but with much broader girth and the innovative and wonderful inlaid nib. PFMs are superb writers with perfect balance and feel. They are justifiably one of the most collectible fountain pens in the world. Interestingly, Pen For Men was not a hit when it came to market. This decade belonged the new ballpoint pens, so expensive pens that needed refilling from messy ink bottles were a difficult sell. By 1963, the five original PFM offerings had been trimmed to two, the PFM III and PFM V. Today the PFMs that were discontinued are of course the least commonly available, especially the PFM II and IV. Thus this example is especially collectible. It is additionally in excellent restored condition. The gold-trimmed stainless steel cap is reminiscent of the classic Sheaffer Sentinel models, a part of the Sheaffer line-up since the late 40s. Restoration includes tuned 14k gold inlaid nib with medium ink flow (see photo of writing sample), new O ring and sac, and new seals top and bottom.
