Restored Sheaffer Excellent Black Oversize Balance Premier, Extra Fine Point. Length capped – 5 1/2. Point – Extra Fine. Sheaffer “oversize” Balance pens were made during the 20s, 30s, and into the 40s. The teardrop clip and cap identify this pen as one the last versions of the iconic oversize Premier model, made sometime between 1937 and World War II. The nib is a smooth extra fine with medium ink flow, and I’ve installed a new latex sac. The celluloid is free of visible surface scratches but shows some shrinkage under the clip (cannot be seen in the photos–pen must be held at the right angle to the light). Restored Sheaffer Burgundy Fat Touchdown Crest, Excellent Condition, Fine Point. Length capped – 5 1/4. Pencil propels and retracts, has extra leads and new eraser. The “fat” Touchdown was produced in the year 1949 for just one year before it was replaced by the Thin Model Touchdown and then the Snorkel model, both slender profile pens. So this is the last of the Sheaffers with wide girth until the end of the 50s when they brought out the Pen For Men. This set is in excellent condition with perfect gold filled caps. The pen has a smooth fine point with new sac and seal, and the pencil works perfectly. I will include a copy of Sheaffer’s enclosure describing the filling system and more.
