It is as great a writing instrument as he was a great cultural visionary. The cap and barrel are composed of 925 sterling silver which is delicately wound. The gold plated fittings have Carolingina features such as those in the cathedral where Charlemagne was crowned, the Aachen Cathedral. The 18 kt gold, rhodium plated nib features an engraving of an early Medievil pattern as well as the emperor’s monogram and comes in a fine point.
