RARE NEAR MINT Early Ladies’ Crest. Fine Point Pen and Pencil. Length capped – 4 7/8. Mechanical pencil is excellent, propels and retracts (good eraser with extra leads). Case is original and in very good condition. Sheaffer’s top line Crest model was introduced in late 1937 for the Christmas season. They were initially made only as lever filling models, and later the Vac-fil model was added to the lineup. Crest was the first pen with a true metal cap, rather than a metal sleeve over a plastic body. Sheaffer promoted it as the first pen with a cap that mounted and posted flush with its plastic barrel. The pen is an exceptionally rare near mint example with a near perfect cap–no dings, very little scratching, deep imprint, and very transparent inkview window. I will include a photocopy of an original Sheaffer paper insert with instructions for filling the pen and pencil. I guarantee the pens I restore write smoothly and fill as designed. This is the International size. The pen is in mint condition. I bought it new in 2011 and have only used it twice. If there are any imperfections, I could not find them under magnification. The macro photos show dust and cloth fibers. It was manufactured in the UK prior to the closure of the Newhaven factory in 2010. It’s a very smooth writer, with a Fine line, and is comfortable in the hand. It is similar in size to the modern Pelikan M600. It’s a stunning pen – the pictures do not do it justice. It is the hardest of my collection to say goodbye to. It will come in its original gift box, from a smoke and pet-free home. Restored Sheaffer NEAR MINT. Pastel Gray Snorkel Clipper. Fine Point Pen & Pencil. Length capped – 5 1/2. Pencil has new eraser and extra leads, propels and retracts as it should. Case – near mint. Near mint pen and pencil set restored from near mint original examples. Both pen and pencil look and operate perfectly, and the case is also near mint. An interesting feature of the pen is its color-matched section. Some Snorkel history: Snorkels were manufactured from 1952 to 1959. Black, burgundy, and pastel blue, green, and gray were the five original colors and came with black sections. They remained in the lineup throughout the entire production run. In 1956 however Sheaffer introduced 6 new colors and most of them had sections in matching colors. Very few of the original color Snorkels (from late in the production run) are found with color matched sections, and this pen is one of them. The sticker on the section is original and there is a tiny fragment of the original chalk marks visible on the barrel–please see the next-to-last photo. Also included with this set is the original Sheaffer enclosure with filling directions. I guarantee the pens I restore write smoothly and fill as designed.
