Restored Sheaffer Very Good Black Pen For Men I. (PFM I), Fine Point. Length capped – 5 3/8. The Pens For Men, which ironically were highly unpopular in their day, have now become one of the most sought after Sheaffers. They were produced from 1959 through 1968, with all but the PFM III and V withdrawn by 1962. This example, a PFM I, has chrome trim and PdAg (palladium silver) inlaid nib. It is a very smooth writing pen with medium ink flow and all new wear parts–point and barrel end seals and PVC sac. Restored Sheaffer NEAR MINT Black Snorkel Crest, Fine/Extra Fine Point. Length capped – 5 1/2. Point – Fine to Extra Fine. Restored Sheaffer OVERSIZE Excellent Black Flat Top, Extra Fine Point, ca 1929. Length capped – 5 1/4. Point – Extra Fine. Oversize Sheaffer pens of the 1920s through 1940s are some the largest pens ever made. In addition to their huge girth, they have very large solid 14k nibs known for their superior writing qualities. Flat top pens like this were produced in the 1920s. After the Balance model was introduced in 1929, Sheaffer is thought to have continued making flat tops into the 1930s. Restored Sheaffer Excellent Black Oversize Balance Premier, Extra Fine Point. Length capped – 5 1/2. Point – Extra Fine. Sheaffer “oversize” Balance pens were made during the 20s, 30s, and into the 40s. The teardrop clip and cap identify this pen as one the last versions of the iconic oversize Premier model, made sometime between 1937 and World War II. The nib is a smooth extra fine with medium ink flow, and I’ve installed a new latex sac. The celluloid is free of visible surface scratches but shows some shrinkage under the clip (cannot be seen in the photos–pen must be held at the right angle to the light). Restored Sheaffer Burgundy Fat Touchdown Crest, Excellent Condition, Fine Point. Length capped – 5 1/4. Pencil propels and retracts, has extra leads and new eraser. The “fat” Touchdown was produced in the year 1949 for just one year before it was replaced by the Thin Model Touchdown and then the Snorkel model, both slender profile pens. So this is the last of the Sheaffers with wide girth until the end of the 50s when they brought out the Pen For Men. This set is in excellent condition with perfect gold filled caps.
