NEAR MINT 1ST YEAR Burgundy Snorkel Saratoga. Length capped – 5 1/2. This burgundy 1st year Snorkel Saratoga is in near mint condition and was restored from a near mint original example. The Saratoga is a Snorkel model featuring a two-tone 14k gold, traditional open nib. Snorkel pens made in the first year of production (1952) were equipped with 14k gold Snorkel tubes. The company didn’t advertise or otherwise publicize the fact, and it wasn’t until sometime in the 1960s that a pair of collectors sent a tube for assay, and the first-year Snorkels became collectibles.
