The Sheaffer Pen Company has been inseparably involved in the development of the fountain pen for more than eighty years. Walter Sheaffer began the quest with his invention of a then radical self-filling device known as the “lever filler”. Aficionados around the world are quick to recognize the significance of such authentic examples of fountain pen history. The 65000 Fountain Pen. In 1928, the Sheaffer Pen Company developed an improved pen series which for the first time offered writers a balanced, ergonomic writing instrument. The Balance Lifetime fountain pen reduced writer’s cramp by moving the weight toward the nib. The cap and barrel received additional machining to trim back excess material from the normally square and heavy ends. The result was a pen that could be cradled comfortably in the hand, with improved aesthetics, feel and balance. These design features were recognized and appreciated by Sheaffer’s customers, making Balance an integral part of Sheaffer’s product line for over 30 years.
