The Signature model is distinct, in that it has a solid 14k cap band (hallmarked). A new owner could send the pen to Sheaffer with. There an artisan would copy the owner’s signature onto the gold cap band and send it back. This example was never sent in for that service. The pen and case are original but the pencil is a replacement. This example is from the period from 1956 to the end of Snorkel production in 1959 because the color is “new” burgundy. Replacement of all seals and the sac. Smoothing and adjusting the nib. Refinishing the plastic and gold-filled surfaces. Pastel Green Snorkel Valiant. Length capped – 5 1/2. In 1952 Sheaffer introduced new Thin Model pens with the innovative Snorkel filling system. Without fanfare, they added a solid 14k gold Snorkel tube, and it was many years later that a couple collectors sent a tube for assay and announced the news that those 1st year tubes were pretty unusual. This pastel green White Dot Valiant is an example from 1952. It is in excellent restored condition. The Snorkel filling system was rebuilt with new sac, O ring, and point seal; the nib was smoothed and adjusted; the plastic surfaces were refinished; and then the pen was thoroughly cleaned and tested. Very Good Blue Pen For Men III (PFM III). Length capped – 5 3/8. The Pen For Men III is one of five PFM models that Sheaffer produced through the period from 1959 to 1967. The PFM III has a 14k gold nib with plastic body, and blue is one of five colors offered. This condition of this exaample is listed as “very good” only because of the missing white dot.
